where is your boy tonight / i hope he is a gentleman

( sequel to: i'm running and screaming / i feel like a hero and you are my heroine )

A week. A whole week. To a normal person, that might not be all that long, or maybe sometimes it is long when life catches up to them—but for Wally West, a week feels like an eternity. An eternity in which he hasn't heard from his girlfriend once. It's like she's completely disappeared—won't answer his calls, texts, nothing. The only option left is to pay her a personal visit, but Fawcett City isn't exactly close (unless you happen to be a speedster)—but even with his speedy recovery, Barry still insisted on keeping tabs on him to make sure he didn't overexert himself. Plus his parents were practically keeping him under lock and key and forbidding him to go out except for school or school-related functions. Their son had got himself shot, after all, and they certainly didn't want him involved in anything remotely dangerous ever again. So, of course, Kid Flash was taking a little hiatus (as much as Robin tried to convince him otherwise).

But it's been a week, and he's starting to get worried, so he dons his (replacement) uniform, stuffs a change of clothes in his backpack, and sets off for Fawcett City. If anything horrible happens, he'll let Barry say "I told you so," but for now he's feeling perfectly fine—incredible—and definitely up for a good run. It's been at least a month since he's run this fast, and the rush makes him feel alive—he'd almost forgotten what it felt like, what with being cooped up and having to sneak out for short runs in the dead of night, keeping his speed low enough to not alert the heart monitor watch Barry'd forced him to start wearing, just in case. A totally unnecessary precaution, but his uncle refused to back down because he felt responsible for this whole thing and the watch would only serve to reduce the chances of it happening again. So, naturally, Wally ditched it—i.e., convinced Conner to wear it—for this run.

And by the time he's close to Midori's house, he's feeling better than ever and ready to tackle the mystery of Midori's lack of communication. He quickly changes in a nearby gas station bathroom and then inconspicuously shows up at Midori's front door (my, that was a strange gust of wind). He swallows, suddenly feeling very nervous, and knocks.

Things are not well in the Komaki household.

Midori’s school has been told that she has a bad flu and needs to be home, and her father had taken her cell phone and laptop away. The tension in the house is palpable, and the constant fights are doing nothing but making Midori take to curling up in her room and refusing to come out for long stretches of time.

Because Daichi Komaki’s 16 year old daughter is pregnant. By a boy who had gotten himself shot less than a month ago. Probably a gangster, just like those awful boys she knew back home. And, to make it worse, she refused to even talk to him about it until she saw this boy. The whole situation was a mess.

And now Midori is crying in her room again, and someone is at the door. Might as well get it, it’s probably the mailman with a package or somethi—

You.” He actually blurts it out in extremely impolite Japanese before remembering that this kid doesn’t speak Japanese.

“I was wondering when you would show up.” His voice is cold and the anger is barely contained. He doesn’t wait for a response, grabbing Wally by the wrist and pulling him into the house.

They're just going to... stay in the entryway for the time being, although Midori's father does close the door behind them. He's going to glare now, and he is going to glare hard.

"Wallace West. You are a terrible influence on my daughter, this much has become abundantly clear. I was willing to give you a chance but it seems you've finally done something that will not be easy to fix. Do you know what you did, Wallace?" Mr. Komaki is not doing very well at keeping his voice below 'I will kill you' level, but right now, he doesn't care. His daughter is in her room and perhaps he can fix this nonsense before she realizes what's going on.

In a normal situation, Mr. Komaki could probably respect that the kid had backbone. Instead, he's busy wanting to strangle him, because how does he have no idea.

At least he called him sir.

"She hasn't left the house in a week, Wallace. This is serious." He takes a deep breath, wondering briefly how telling the boy is going to alter the outcome of this.

"Midori is pregnant."

Thank god, a correct reaction from one of the parents! If Mr. Komaki had to listen to his daughter defend her choices and pregnancy one more time... And now it is time to catch your second mistake, Wally. I am dearly sorry, but...

"Robin. That is a girl's name." See that glare? I think Daichi Komaki was a student of Batman's at some point. "If there is another girl involved in this, I--"

He doesn't get to finish that sentence, though, because Midori chooses this moment to wonder what on earth is going on in the front room. Raising your voice probably wasn't a great idea, Mr. Komaki.

"Daddy, who-- Wally!!" Midori's voice is a little bit muffled because she's clearly been crying, but her squeal of joy is entirely honest and she knocks an end table over in her haste to reach her boyfriend and just... cling to him.

"I knew you'd come! I'm so, so, so sorry I couldn't call, Daddy took my phone and my laptop and-and-and!!" And she suddenly bursts into tears, hiding her face in Wally's shoulder. Her father stands by awkwardly, not sure what to say.

Midori's father eyes Wally suspiciously, not really trusting his 'lesbian best friend' excuse. But he really doesn't get time to press the young man on it, because SUDDENLY MIDORI.

Midori snuggles into the hug, attaching herself firmly as if frightened someone might pull them apart. Which she actually is. Her dad isn't too fond of her boyfriend right now.

"I missed you..." She whimpers into his shoulder, solemnly refusing to pull her face out of the comfort she's found there.

"Daddy told you, didn't he?" Midori finally has to peek out of her safe little shoulder hideout, although just enough to make eye contact, so her voice is still muffled by his shirt. "A-and I won't let them kill you over this! It's my fault too!"

Midori is the one pregnant with Wally's child, really, her father had no right to keep them from even talking to each other, even if he was doing it for her own good. Midori makes a soft little cooing noise, that sounds somewhere between happiness and distress, and smiles with relief. On some level, she'd been afraid that this would be like those awful reality shows where the teen father abandoned his girlfriend and his baby and that would just be the worst, and the fear had been nagging at her no matter how many times she screamed at her father that Wally wasn't like that.

Midori follows Wally's gaze and warm palm down to her stomach, familiar with the wonder he's feeling by now. Sometimes, with her dad long since asleep on the couch to keep her from running out, she would just sit in bed and trace her fingers along her still-normal-looking stomach. She felt pregnant in the physical sense that she was getting morning sickness and was rather moody, but she didn't feel pregnant emotionally. How could her body hold a child? She was barely more than a child herself, this was almost too much to take in even now that she's getting used to the idea. But it's their baby, and she's already starting to fall in love with the little bundle of cells her father insists doesn't mean anything but a mistake. If she'd gotten pregnant in some other situation, she'd probably feel the same, but this was something she shared with Wally, this was supposed to be their child.

"A few weeks... I thought it was the flu, but the doctor..." She fidgets a little with the bottom of her shirt, staring in the general vicinity of her bellybutton. The pregnancy tests said positive. The doctor said she was pregnant. Her father put her on house arrest.

The amazement in Wally's voice sends a shock of warmth through her body. Oh wow. His voice echoes her own feelings- the sense of impossibility of the miracle presented to them. She feels like she might cry, but for once in this whole mess, she's not upset.

"Yeah... Our itty bitty baby." Her voice trembles, but the happiness is audible in her voice and visible on her face.
