[there aren't a lot of people who read barry's blog. barry forgets it exists half the time these days, because he isn't just chasing and documenting the impossible anymore — he is the impossible, and it's pretty much taken over life. besides, there's no way he could keep up with his blog without having to address the flash and that...would be pretty weird. but after helping oliver with a pretty cool case in starling city, he updates with a fresh post for old times' sake and so it doesn't look too weird, like he's just flat abandoned the blog. besides, it was a really cool case and even if he can't include even a quarter of the real details, he can't help himself.
when a notif for a reply pops up, it's kind of weird, but he assumes it's just some random person or troll or something. what he really wasn't expecting was a comment from eddie. and that's what leads him to approaching eddie during some downtime at the precinct the next day, shuffling kind of awkwardly — because there's no way asking something like this isn't awkward.]
( it isn't a heist of their choosing, but it is a heist — even if most of what they stole were artefacts the captain believes will aid them in his quest against vandal savage. even if len still doesn't like the captain and doesn't trust him because he has proven that he considers each of them expendable, not equal members of a team but pawns to push around on a chess board, a heist is a heist is a heist, and this one has gone off perfectly, perhaps because it had been len and mick running the show, perhaps because for once, their expertise was not only needed but not questioned.
there's something about pulling it off. for len, it's cold calculation, running the numbers and possibilities in his head, keeping time constantly, and it leaves his mind exhausted and wide open both at the same time, hyperfocused and extended. it's a great feeling, and paired with adrenaline and success, it's an all too addictive cocktail.
for mick — well, len knows it gets him hot.
len doesn't like heat. more than that, he despises it — but there are some forms of it that he finds tolerable, and the way mick burns is one of them. he knows mick knows it, because this isn't the first time they've done it, not by a long stretch of the imagination. they're partners and that involves blowing off steam and burning off excess adrenaline, too. with anyone else, len might have preferred to cool it, to freeze them out, but mick is who he is, and len trusts him, in as much as he trusts anyone.
so here they are, back on the ship with the artefacts safely stowed away, with mick biting at len's neck and shoulder while he pushes thick fingers deep inside him. )
Do get on with it. ( len forces the words out in between pressed breaths, and it's a struggle to keep his voice sounding unaffected and unbothered, not to let mick's heat affect him. it's a struggle, especially when mick crooks his fingers just so, pleasure shooting up his spine and making his cock jerk where it hangs heavy between his legs. )
[Tess’ footsteps echo silently in S.T.A.R Labs. Eobard is dead. They’d killed him. She’d killed him. And Eddie. They’d killed him together. She’d improved on Ray’s speed-suppressing nanites, and with them coursing through his veins... Thawne hadn’t been able to dodge the bullets that had killed him. Even though she knows he wasn’t her husband, knows that he’d murdered him years before and stolen his skin, worn him like a SUIT for all this time... it didn’t change the fact that he’d been wearing Harrison’s face when he died. She’d watched the light go out of his eyes.
She’d helped make the light go out of his eyes.
She thinks she might be sick. She feels like she’s going to be sick. He’s dead. She killed him. They killed him. She should feel... better than this. They’d stopped him. He’d finally paid for everything he’d done. He’d finally paid for murdering Harrison. But all she feels is sick. Numb. A gnawing, aching sort of grief that she’s pretty sure might swallow her whole. It’s why she’s withdrawn the way she has. Because Barry, the rest of her team... they’re dealing with the aftermath of all that’s happened, too. They don’t need her adding to that.
Her hands are shaking, as she stands in what remains of her husband’s dream. Their dream.]
Most of all Jesse herself. It had been a year since they returned to their Earth, and her encounter with the dark matter explosion to give Barry back his speed was just a memory. They’d settled back into their lives. She helped her dad with STAR Labs. Finished her schooling.
She wasn’t sure what made things change. But they did change.
She WAS a metahuman, and more than that, she was a speedster. At least she’d had an idea of what was happening when it started. And god it took some getting used to. Suddenly she was fast; faster than Barry, even (which fascinated her; what determined a speedster’s top speed, and what influenced it? The same went for the differences in lightning; hers was a white-gold, to Barry’s yellow), and eating her body weight in food. If not for her dad she probably would have floundered worse than she did. But he’d come back with her.
They were a team.
So they worked together, to help her get a handle on her speed. To learn the differences in what she could do. And then he surprised her with a suit. Similar to Barry’s but with a domino mask instead of the hood, in a dark rusty shade of orange, a lightning symbol different from The Flash’s on the chest that matched the ring to store it in. He’d known before she’d even made the decision to follow in Barry’s footsteps.
And follow in his footsteps she did. Their Central City was a little bit wary at first, given their previous experiences with a speedster. With Zoom. But she didn’t let it stop her, she refused to let it stop her. She proved herself, and they slowly started to warm to her.
Even gave her an alliterative nickname.
Couldn’t stay that way forever, though.
She was going up against a metahuman that could generate and manipulate lava. She’d known she was fast... but she hadn’t know she was that fast. Not until she was racing to contain and cool the lava, to keep it from spreading... and ran so fast she tore a hole in the universe. A breach. And she didn’t realise until it was too late. Until there was no turning back.
Losing her footing she tripped, tumbling to a halt on the pavement of an unfamiliar alley.
Oh no.
Hurting (briefly, at least. One of the perks of being a speedster), she pushed herself up to her knees with a groan. This wasn’t good. This wasn’t good at all. She wasn’t panicking. Well, she was trying not to, anyway. She definitely wasn’t on her Earth anymore. The lighting was different, the style of the architecture.
She scrambled to her feet. Okay. One thing at a time. First she needed to find out what this Earth was like. Figure out a way to survive. And then she could figure out how to get home. Returning her suit to her ring she quickly took her hair out of the braid she wore it in as Jesse Quick. Dressed like a civilian she could explore freely; she wouldn’t look any different. She thought. She hoped. She didn’t know if this Earth had metahumans, and running around in a leather suit trailing lightning tended to draw a little attention.
Once she learned if there were metahumans here she could be a little more open.
[He really hasn't had the chance to talk to Wally after what happened in the Speed Force, not the way he knows he needs to. Part of him is nervous, honestly, because he doesn't really know what to say. But when he has a moment of free time, he approaches him quietly.]
Hey. You want to go to Jitters with me? I could use some coffee.
[Barry skids across the pavement and stops short of knocking over a bunch of garbage cans, catching his breath for a moment. Going through a breach is always intense, but that one felt different. From the looks of things, he isn't exactly when or where he wanted to be, either. It's always a risk, but it's especially frustrating considering the circumstances.
It doesn't look like the future, or at least far enough into when Cisco had vibed. Maybe he didn't go far enough ahead. Looks like he's near CCPD, at least, so maybe he can get Joe's help. He can't exactly just walk in wearing his Flash suit, though. So he waits, contemplating maybe going to Joe's house before hearing a devastatingly familiar voice.
He can't help himself; he steps out from behind the tree he was leaning against, staring.]
