Her dad was wrong.

The tests were wrong.

And everyone had been surprised.

Most of all Jesse herself. It had been a year since they returned to their Earth, and her encounter with the dark matter explosion to give Barry back his speed was just a memory. They’d settled back into their lives. She helped her dad with STAR Labs. Finished her schooling.

She wasn’t sure what made things change. But they did change.

She WAS a metahuman, and more than that, she was a speedster. At least she’d had an idea of what was happening when it started. And god it took some getting used to. Suddenly she was fast; faster than Barry, even (which fascinated her; what determined a speedster’s top speed, and what influenced it? The same went for the differences in lightning; hers was a white-gold, to Barry’s yellow), and eating her body weight in food. If not for her dad she probably would have floundered worse than she did. But he’d come back with her.

They were a team.

So they worked together, to help her get a handle on her speed. To learn the differences in what she could do. And then he surprised her with a suit. Similar to Barry’s but with a domino mask instead of the hood, in a dark rusty shade of orange, a lightning symbol different from The Flash’s on the chest that matched the ring to store it in. He’d known before she’d even made the decision to follow in Barry’s footsteps.

And follow in his footsteps she did. Their Central City was a little bit wary at first, given their previous experiences with a speedster. With Zoom. But she didn’t let it stop her, she refused to let it stop her. She proved herself, and they slowly started to warm to her.

Even gave her an alliterative nickname.

Couldn’t stay that way forever, though.

She was going up against a metahuman that could generate and manipulate lava. She’d known she was fast... but she hadn’t know she was that fast. Not until she was racing to contain and cool the lava, to keep it from spreading... and ran so fast she tore a hole in the universe. A breach. And she didn’t realise until it was too late. Until there was no turning back.

Losing her footing she tripped, tumbling to a halt on the pavement of an unfamiliar alley.

Oh no.

Hurting (briefly, at least. One of the perks of being a speedster), she pushed herself up to her knees with a groan. This wasn’t good. This wasn’t good at all. She wasn’t panicking. Well, she was trying not to, anyway. She definitely wasn’t on her Earth anymore. The lighting was different, the style of the architecture.

She scrambled to her feet. Okay. One thing at a time. First she needed to find out what this Earth was like. Figure out a way to survive. And then she could figure out how to get home. Returning her suit to her ring she quickly took her hair out of the braid she wore it in as Jesse Quick. Dressed like a civilian she could explore freely; she wouldn’t look any different. She thought. She hoped. She didn’t know if this Earth had metahumans, and running around in a leather suit trailing lightning tended to draw a little attention.

Once she learned if there were metahumans here she could be a little more open.

She hoped.
