[there aren't a lot of people who read barry's blog. barry forgets it exists half the time these days, because he isn't just chasing and documenting the impossible anymore — he is the impossible, and it's pretty much taken over life. besides, there's no way he could keep up with his blog without having to address the flash and that...would be pretty weird. but after helping oliver with a pretty cool case in starling city, he updates with a fresh post for old times' sake and so it doesn't look too weird, like he's just flat abandoned the blog. besides, it was a really cool case and even if he can't include even a quarter of the real details, he can't help himself.
when a notif for a reply pops up, it's kind of weird, but he assumes it's just some random person or troll or something. what he really wasn't expecting was a comment from eddie. and that's what leads him to approaching eddie during some downtime at the precinct the next day, shuffling kind of awkwardly — because there's no way asking something like this isn't awkward.]
[ the thing is, eddie didn't really mean to start reading barry's blog. it sort of just ... sucked him in. iris had shown it to him offhandedly during one of their coffee dates while barry was still in the coma, when eddie hardly knew anything about barry allen aside from what iris told him. they'd exchanged a few greetings before the accident, but other than that, they might as well have been strangers. eddie indulged iris in all her stories about barry because it made her feel better, and he might admit that maybe he wanted to know more about barry, wanted to be able to experience his enthusiasm and energy the way iris did ... there had definitely been something about him the first time they met, too. even without knowing him, eddie felt like he understood why iris missed him so much, longed for his presence back in her life. ]
[ and maybe that's the reason he never actually closed the tab iris had opened barry's blog in, maybe that's why he actually stayed up all night reading through all the posts barry made sporadically over the last few years. it was actually kind of fascinating the things barry wrote about — maybe not always entirely eddie's cup of tea, but eddie still found himself engrossed nonetheless. the energy iris always talked about seemed to be alive and well within the posts barry must have poured some part of his soul into, and it was obvious how much this stuff meant to him. eddie could at least appreciate that much, if not the actual content itself. ]
[ the blog stays mostly forgotten once barry wakes up; eddie mentions it once to joe, completely accidentally (though it had seemed sort of relevant to the case at the time), but after that ... barry doesn't seem to keep updating it, and eddie's too busy to keep checking. he sees barry a lot more often in person, anyway; getting to know him through his blog seems counterproductive. he doesn't really want barry to know he ever read it, anyway — it seems a little creepy when eddie starts to think about it. "yeah, i read your whole blog while you were in a coma because i wanted to get to know you! i might have also scrolled through your whole facebook page." maybe not the best thing to admit to someone who doesn't quite trust you. ]
[ so when barry actually makes a new post, eddie almost has the good sense not to comment. then again, he figures maybe if barry knows eddie supports his blog and thinks what he's doing is pretty cool, things might be a little less weird between them. or ... they could just get weirder. it's a gamble eddie's willing to take. ]
[ he doesn't really think about it too much the next day. barry either saw it or he didn't, and there's no reason to get worked up over something so simple as barry not responding to an internet comment. it's the fact that barry actually comes up to him during work that makes eddie wonder if he did something wrong. he can't immediately assume this is because of the comment, but he can't think of anything else he might have done involving barry recently. regardless of why barry wants to talk, though, eddie puts on his warmest smile when barry approaches, because, honestly, barry coming to him is pretty rare, so he can't help but relish in it a little bit, despite how awkward barry's posture is (but when is his posture not awkward?). ]
[he gestures vaguely away from eddie's desk, towards the hall in which the elevators are. he's not sure there's any real need to usher eddie away to discuss the incredibly serious matter of barry's blogging, but it seems equally weird to talk about it right here, especially when captain singh could walk out that door of his at any minute and ask them why they're talking about the internet and not work.]
[ eddie is maybe a little more elated by the fact that barry wants to ask him something than he probably should be, despite the fact that he's pretty sure he knows what it is barry wants to ask him about, which isn't exactly the same as barry wanting to come to him for advice. either way, it's a chance to actually have a conversation with barry, even if it might be a little awkward if eddie's right about the subject matter. he's just glad barry feels at least vaguely comfortable around him, enough to approach him about whatever it might be. ]
Sure, shoot. You know you can always ask me anything.
[ it's true; eddie has a policy of openness and honesty, and that's included barry since he started seeing iris. even though barry wasn't exactly ... there, the second he woke up eddie promised himself he'd do his best to make barry feel comfortable with the sudden addition of a near stranger in his life. it must have been more than jarring to wake up after nine months and find your life had totally changed, which is why eddie's made such an effort to reach out and gradually integrate himself into barry's life instead of just telling barry to get used to it. it's been slow going, sure, but eddie thinks this might be progress, at the very least. ]
