Midori is the one pregnant with Wally's child, really, her father had no right to keep them from even talking to each other, even if he was doing it for her own good. Midori makes a soft little cooing noise, that sounds somewhere between happiness and distress, and smiles with relief. On some level, she'd been afraid that this would be like those awful reality shows where the teen father abandoned his girlfriend and his baby and that would just be the worst, and the fear had been nagging at her no matter how many times she screamed at her father that Wally wasn't like that.
Midori follows Wally's gaze and warm palm down to her stomach, familiar with the wonder he's feeling by now. Sometimes, with her dad long since asleep on the couch to keep her from running out, she would just sit in bed and trace her fingers along her still-normal-looking stomach. She felt pregnant in the physical sense that she was getting morning sickness and was rather moody, but she didn't feel pregnant emotionally. How could her body hold a child? She was barely more than a child herself, this was almost too much to take in even now that she's getting used to the idea. But it's their baby, and she's already starting to fall in love with the little bundle of cells her father insists doesn't mean anything but a mistake. If she'd gotten pregnant in some other situation, she'd probably feel the same, but this was something she shared with Wally, this was supposed to be their child.
"A few weeks... I thought it was the flu, but the doctor..." She fidgets a little with the bottom of her shirt, staring in the general vicinity of her bellybutton. The pregnancy tests said positive. The doctor said she was pregnant. Her father put her on house arrest.
The amazement in Wally's voice sends a shock of warmth through her body. Oh wow. His voice echoes her own feelings- the sense of impossibility of the miracle presented to them. She feels like she might cry, but for once in this whole mess, she's not upset.
"Yeah... Our itty bitty baby." Her voice trembles, but the happiness is audible in her voice and visible on her face.
